Two former White House officials, who worked as part of the Obama transition team, have claimed that Jared Kushner, son-in-law and close advisor to President Trump, pushed Michael Flynn, former national security advisor, to contact several foreign ambassadors, including those belonging to the Russian state.
This follows Michael Flynn’s admittance of lying to the FBI regarding Russia, on Friday.
The significance of this claim lies in its relevance to the Mueller investigation into the Trump team’s alleged involvement with Russian officials. The ex-White House official’s claims could suggest that the Trump team did have contacts with Russians, but necessarily in the ways that have currently been suggested by the press, public, and opponents.
Alternatively, these reports could back up any potential statements Flynn, who is now working with Special Counsel Mueller, could make against President Donald Trump.
