Lawyer In Egypt Imprisoned For Saying Women In Ripped Jeans Should Be Raped

Nabih al-Wahsh, a prominent Egyptian lawyer and conservative, has been sentenced to three years in Prison, as well as a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds, for saying that women who wear ripped jeans should be raped.
Al-Wahsh, who is also known for being a Holocaust denier, made these remarks during a debate he had on a television panel show.
“Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?” he said.
He added: “I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her.”
The charges were brought against Wahshi in court after a public outcry over his comments during the show.
The remarks were also condemned by the National Council for Women’s Rights, who called his comments a “flagrant call” for rape, in violation of “everything in the Egyptian constitution”.
