A women’s rights group in the Philipines has slammed President Duterte after he ordered some of his soldiers during a speech to shoot the female communist rebel fighters in their genitals as opposed to directly shooting to kill.
Addressing a group of soldiers in the Heroes Hall, the Presidential Museum and Library, in Quezon City, Duterte said that the soldiers should take strict, brutal measures to counter the female opposition.
“Tell the soldiers. ‘There’s a new order coming from mayor. We won’t kill you. We will just shoot your – so that… If there are no – it would be useless,” he said.
On Sunday, Gabriela Women’s Party, which represents Filipino women in the country’s House of Representatives, criticized the comments made by President Duterte saying that the comments made by the president “encourage violence against women and contributes to their impunity.”
