An unnamed former Catholic priest from Germany has been found guilty of 108 counts of child sex abuse and possession of child pornography.
The man was sentenced for jailed for eight and a half years in prison.
While his identity has been kept secret, he has been known as “Father Thomas” in most coverage.
The former priest will undergo psychiatric therapy before starting his near decade-long sentence.
“Father Thomas’” crimes include the abuse of five boys between the years of 1997 and 2016 in his home country of Germany, as well as on missions in other countries including Italy, Poland, Austria, and Switzerland, with these particular cases numbering well over one hundred.
The serial abuser has also been charged with the attempted rape of an 18-year-old girl, document falsification, fraud, and possession of child pornography.
Chief Justice Thomas Trautwein, who presided over the trial, claimed that the treatment of the assailant will take many years whilst also saying that pedophilia is not curable, casting doubts on the man’s treatment.
