Former army private, Chelsea Manning, who was charged with leaking state secrets, has filed to run for Senate in the state of Maryland. This is according to the federal election filings.
Manning, a transgender woman, has rejected to comment on the subject. She will be running against Ben Cardin, who has served two terms as the Senator for the state of Maryland since his election in 2007.
Manning, 30, was formerly known as Bradley Manning and was convicted in 2013 for leaking classified documents and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. However, President Obama commuted her sentence before the end of his term.
